Week Commencing: 3rd October
Year Group: 3
Class: Ash
This week in maths, ash class continued to explore place value.
The children have been using base 10 to help them explore place value, especially when comparing numbers. The children created 2-digit or 3-digit numbers independently using the base 10. They then compared the numbers using the greater than, less than or equals symbols, discussing their ideas with their partner.
Using the base 10 helped the children compare the numbers as they could visualise the hundreds, the tens and the ones in each number. This helped them compare the numbers as they could see the difference in the units.
Work in their exercise books complemented their exploration of comparing numbers using the base 10 as they could successfully compare the numbers in their written work using the correct symbols.
